Welcome back to the second half of the Autumn Term!
Thank you to everyone who came to see us at parents evening last term, we enjoyed having the chance to share with you how happy we are with the children’s progress in such a short time.
Last term in Maths, Year 2 explored place value by learning to identify tens and ones in numbers. We practiced comparing numbers using the greater than (>) and less than (<) symbols, partitioned numbers in different ways, and developed our skip counting skills in 2s, 5s, and 10s. This term, we’re building on that foundation by continuing our work on times tables and learning how to add and subtract using the column method. We’ll also be diving into shape as we explore the properties of 2D and 3D shapes.
In English last term, we enjoyed reading The Smartest Giant in Town and The Snail and the Whale. We focused on character and setting descriptions, using a wide range of adjectives, nouns, verbs, and adverbs to bring our writing to life. One of our highlights was writing diary entries from the perspective of the snail, imagining all the exciting adventures shared with the whale! This term, we’re turning our attention to Room on the Broom where we’ll continue to expand our vocabulary and make our writing even more engaging and imaginative.
We had an amazing time on our recent trip to Noah’s Ark Zoo Farm! One of the highlights was attending Zoo School, where we learned all about how different animals adapt to their environments. We even got to meet a snake and a cockroach up close! The children were thrilled to see giraffes, elephants, tigers, bears and camels during our visit—it was a fantastic day full of learning and adventure.
This term in computing we are learning about what makes a good photo and how to achieve this on the iPads. In History we will also be learning all about Guy Fawkes, The Gunpowder Plot and how this links to the carnival we all know and love.
