Welcome to the Kangaroos Class!
Year 5 is action packed with lots of amazing trips and topics of learning. We will start of by visiting our local area, looking at the impact of the Clark’s family and completing some geographical fieldwork. Then it’s down to work, studying North America, The Universe, and the Vikings, to name but a few. We will complete our Vikings unit by taking part in a re-enactment day, where we will put our artefacts and weapons (that we have made) to good use.

P.E.
Thursday afternoons - sport with Mr Ball, Mr Perry & Miss Wicks.
Children can wear P.E. Kit or Always Active uniform to school on P.E. days.
Friday mornings - sport with the class teacher.
Please wear P.E. kit to school.
P.E. kit is a red Brookside t-shirt, black shorts and/or black joggers/leggings, a sweatshirt/hoodie and trainers.
Home Learning at Brookside Academy
- Children use Bedrock Learning as a key part of their home learning.
- Bedrock Learning is linked closely to the curriculum and supports the development of vocabulary, comprehension and background knowledge through topics connected to classroom learning.
- Alongside Bedrock Learning, children are encouraged to read physical books regularly for pleasure.
- Children use Emile to practise and revisit the spelling rules currently being taught in class. The focus is on understanding and applying spelling patterns independently across a wide range of writing.
- Children are encouraged to regularly use Times Tables Rock Stars to develop fluency, confidence and automatic recall of multiplication facts.
- Short, frequent practice sessions are the most effective way to build strong mathematical foundations.
