The Summer term began with an exciting adventure for the Year 4 children, who enjoyed a fantastic school trip to Magdalen Farm Environmental Trust. During the visit, the children took part in a wide range of practical, outdoor learning activities that linked closely to our Science curriculum.
The children explored a variety of habitats and worked carefully to sort living things into classifications, using their observational skills to identify similarities and differences. They also deepened their understanding of food chains, learning about the roles of producers and primary consumers through engaging games and hands‑on activities.
As part of their fieldwork, the children went into the River Axe, where they measured the speed, width and depth of the river. This provided an excellent opportunity for pupils to apply their learning in a real‑life context while developing their enquiry and data‑collection skills.
Throughout the day, the pupils demonstrated excellent teamwork, curiosity and enthusiasm for their learning. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to carry out real‑life fieldwork within such a rich and stimulating outdoor environment. The staff we worked with were impressed with our strong knowledge of habitats and food chains.
Overall, it was a highly enjoyable and valuable experience that truly brought our Science learning to life. We were glad to have spare dry clothes with us!
