Looking back at the end of the Spring Term
At the end of the Spring term, Year 4 completed their learning on Macbeth in English. The children thoroughly enjoyed studying Macbeth. Although they recognised it as a dark topic, they approached it thoughtfully and maturely. They engaged in discussions with insightful and relevant questions. They particularly enjoyed exploring the witches’ chant and showed great enthusiasm when learning part of it by heart. The children also worked creatively to produce freeze frames, demonstrating a strong understanding of key moments and characters.
The children worked hard to describe settings using expanded noun phrases and similes, producing some imaginative and atmospheric writing.
In Science, we explored the school grounds to identify different types of trees. The children examined the bark, trunk and leaves carefully and really enjoyed sharing their discoveries with one another.
During our Design and Technology learning, we found making our cams quite tricky at first. However, the children showed excellent perseverance and gave thoughtful explanations about how their designs could be improved. We discussed whether lollipop sticks were the best option, as they were not quite thick enough, and considered sticking more than one together. We also highlighted the importance of the spacing of the cam to ensure it worked effectively.
Learning in Summer A
In Summer A, we have started reading The Witches by Roald Dahl. The children are enjoying returning to another Roald Dahl text after reading his books in Year 3. We are looking forward to exploring the story further. In English, we will also be beginning work on The Lighthouse and using it as inspiration for our writing this week.
In Maths, we are continuing our learning on decimals, with a focus on tenths and hundredths, developing confidence in reading, writing and comparing them.
The children are very excited to begin our Science topic on electricity, which will link closely with our Design and Technology project where they will design and create an electrical maze game.
We are also really looking forward to our upcoming trip to Magdalen Farm next week, which will provide a valuable hands‑on learning experience for the children.
We hope you all had a lovely Easter break.
