Year 5 have enjoyed a great start to the term!
In French, the children have been practising their reading, writing and speaking skills through our topic on places in town. We have been learning the vocabulary for different landmarks and have also been giving and following directions in French. The children have enjoyed role‑playing real‑life scenarios and using their new language with confidence.
In Geography, we have been exploring the fascinating world of global trade. The children have learnt about imports and exports and discovered how raw materials travel across the world before being transformed into finished products. We investigated transport routes, planned our own shipping paths, and even created a full supply chain for a product of our choice—thinking carefully about where each part of the process would take place. This has helped us understand just how interconnected the world truly is.
During our computing lessons this term, we will be using Crumbles. These are electronic controllers that connects to a computer using a USB cable. You can attach components like LEDs, buttons, and motors to the Crumble using crocodile leads, and you can program your Crumble using software. So far, we have programmed our crumbles to light up LEDs and to move a motor. It has been very fun to create different algorithms and to see what we can do!
World Book Day was a wonderful celebration! The children arrived in fantastic costumes and took part in a variety of reading activities throughout the day. We especially enjoyed sharing books with Year 1 and creating our own corner bookmarks to keep our reading adventures going. It was a brilliant day full of imagination, creativity and a love of books.
