Year 2 end of Spring Term news!

Office UserYear 2, Moles, Otters

I can’t believe we have cone to the end of another term, with only 1 left this academic year! The children have made a lot of progress throughout this half term, and we are so proud of all their achievements!

In English, we started the term off with some poetry! We learned that a shape poem is one that is written in the shape of what the poem is about, so we went with the spring theme and created our own poems about Easter eggs, chicks and rabbits. We learned that a simile describes something as being like something else, and we came up with some brilliant comparisons to use in our poems.

We have also worked hard on our descriptive writing and wrote some brilliant pieces describing pirates using adjectives, verbs and adverbs. We also wrote a set of instructions on how to be an amazing pirate, and used our wonderful imaginations to write our very own pirate stories too!
In Maths we have been learning about fractions. We have been looking at identifying and finding 1/4, 1/2 and 1/3, remembering that each part always needs to be equal so that it is fair. We have been using lots of technical language such as numerator and denominator, and have learned that fractions with a numerator of 1 are called unit fractions.

We have worked on finding fractions within shapes, as well as using this knowledge to find a fraction of a number. We understand how our fantastic times tables knowledge can help us with this! We can also identify non-unit fractions, such as 3/4 and 2/3 and understand that this just means that we look at more than 1 part.

We have loved our computing lessons this term because they have been a combination of both music and computing! We have been using a website called Chrome Music Lab and have been exploring how music makes us feel and having a go at making our own tunes. We made our own musical patterns and experimented changing the tempo, instruments and pitch. We also had a go at choosing an animal to create music for, and we played these to the rest of the class who had to guess what animal it was meant to be! We discussed how an elephant would sound low pitched and slow in tempo to create a stomping sound, whereas a bird would be higher pitched and quick in tempo.

In DT we finished our puppets! We used our brilliant sewing skills to make them an outfit, and enjoyed sticking lots of extra details onto them!

We are so proud of how well the children did in our sharing assembly! Every single child got involved, read a line, sang the songs and proudly showed off their puppets. Well done Year 2, you all did absolutely amazingly!
