Today, we have learnt about the amazing work of Antoni Gaudi, an architect. We were really shocked to hear than when he passed his studies, one of his professors said, ‘ I don’t know whether we stand before a fool or genius.’     Well,  he-went on to become one of the most well-known architects in the world, creating unique work that symbolises Catalan modernism. Millions of tourists now visit his masterpieces in Barcelona every year, such as Park Güell, Sagrada Familia and Casa Milá (also known as La Pedrera). Can you believe that the building Casa Milá has got no straight walls? And the holy church of Sagrada Familia which began in 1882  is still under construction!

His work was particularly inspired by nature and religious images, earning him the name of ‘God’s architect’.  He was a religious, humble man, who did not care about fame or fortune, but about the well-being of his workers and colleagues.

We absolutely loved his quote about his work:

“To do things right you need: firstly, love; secondly, the technique.”

He used many techniques in his work, including “trencadís, making ”,

a kind of mosaic made from broken pieces of tiles, with some impressive examples being his dragon and curved bench in Park Güell .  We have been using trencadís, with paper to create some different animals that live in Spain. Take a look at our photos to show our creativity and the fun that we have been having!
