Welcome back - summer term 2021 - Marple Hall School

This week we have started something brand new in Maths, we have begun to look at multiplication and division. At the moment we are just focusing on what Mrs Clist calls skip counting in 2’s, 5’s and 10’s. We all need to get really good at it and be able to do it all by ourselves. If there is any spare time at home, in the car or even on the walk to school please encourage your child to skip count. Every little bit of practise will help!

Eventually we will start to use this skip counting to help us understand times table and division questions.

In English this week we looked at the story of Beegu, a lonley alien who is lost on Earth. See if your children can retell the story to you. They all loved it. In our writing lessons we focused on capital letters and full stops again, it is amazing how many of the children can forget them again after a few weeks of holidays and not writing as much. 

In Science we have started investigating materials, so far we are just naming them and starting to think about what jobs they have. We will move on to describing these materials soon.

We also started a new Geography unit this week, we learnt that Geography is when we learn about places and we are learning about our local area at the moment. We discussed the words urban and rural and discovered what these mean. Can your child explain it to you? We also explored our school area to see what features we could find.
