In Science, Y5 have just finished studying ‘Properties of Materials’. We have looked at the three states of matter (solid, liquid and gas) as well as different mixtures and how to separate them using dissolving, evaporating, sieving and filtering.
Recently, we focused on reversible and irreversible changes. We learnt that a reversible change is temporary and can be undone (melting ice and refreezing it again) and an irreversible change is permanent and cannot be undone (baking bread).
To explore this further, we mixed vinegar and milk together and created casein plastic, which was once a popular way of making different jewellery and tools such as buttons and combs.
Next, we will begin looking at the planets in our solar system and other features of the universe.
