During the last few weeks, Year 5 have been exploring our local history around Street and influential figures like the Clark’s family. As part of our study we have been learning about the Atlantic Slave Trade and its impact locally.
We have discovered that the Clark’s family were great abolitionists and welcomed visitors like Ida B Wells (an African American woman who was born into slavery, then freed) into their home in order to help her promote an anti-slavery message.
Ida B. Wells was an African American journalist, abolitionist and feminist who led an anti-lynching crusade in the United States in the 1890s. She went on to found and become integral in groups striving for African American justice.
