Year 3 - Lemurs, Meerkats and Gophers

Welcome to the Meerkat, Gopher and Lemur Class Page

2017/18

Teachers: Mrs Gibbons

          Miss Stevens

             Miss C Hodsman

Below is some useful information for the year:

Spellings:

Spellings are sent home weekly for your child to learn with a specific spelling rule. They will be tested each week. Please practise at home as much as you can because the spellings will become progressively more tricky throughout the year.

PE:

Our PE day will be on a Monday.  We are swimming every Friday during the autumn term.

Reading:

We encourage parents to read with their children as often as possible at home. When you read with your child or they read independently, please record it in their reading books as they will receive a house point for reading 3 or more times in one week.

Times tables:

This year, we will be focusing on the 3, 4 and 8 times tables.

  • Please bring in a fresh labelled water bottle every morning as we will be having regular water breaks.

  • A healthy snack really helps your child with their learning and concentration, so please send one in each day. Alternatively, your child can purchase a snack through the canteen via your parent pay account.

  • Break times will be at 10.15am until 10.30am.

  • Lunch times will be at 12.15pm until 1.15pm.

We have an open door policy so please do come in and we will try to help you with any questions or concerns about your child's needs.

Optional extra homework

In addition to weekly spelling, times tables and reading challenges, children have the option of completing extra homework. Full details can be seen below:

Maths

At the start of the Autumn term, we will be expanding our knowledge and understanding of place valve. This workbook will help secure and expand the knowledge your child learns at school.

Writing

Please encourage your child to practise writing as much as possible at home. Here are a few ideas how you can do this:

  •  write a newspaper report about an event, day out or party
  • create a character profile
  • keep a diary or journal
  • write a sequel to a favourite book
  • research a favourite author and write a report about them
  • try out different writing styles, for example, first person or third person

Handwriting

Below are a range of handwriting sheets for year 3. Each focuses on a different aspect of handwriting e.g. different types of joins, letters, breaks etc. Please feel free to print the sheets off to complete and practise at home.
